SoCal Media Scoop is reporting that KNBC has suspended its 11am midday newscast and this will stay permanent, even after the Olympics. For the longest time it was anchored by Chris Schauble and Jennifer Bjorklund. More recently the newscast was cut a half-hour with Access Hollywood coming in at 11:30am.
There has been chatter that NBCU might bring "Daily Connection" which already airs at 3pm on WRC-TV or an hourlong "LXTV" show, like the one of WNBC, to KNBC. http://socalmediascoop.blogspot.com/...-newscast.html |

Most like Larry Wert's (NBC Local Media's Central and Western region president) idea. He's never really been a fan of the midday news. When he was still President/GM of only WMAQ in Chicago a couple years ago, he canned WMAQ's 11AM newscast. |

One could argue that is the one newscast station could live without. I don't agree with the idea, but if it saves money and jobs, go forth.

A lot of NBC O&Os don't run midday newscasts so it's really nothing new.

KNBC-TV Channel 4 has canceled “Midday Report,” its 11 a.m. newscast anchored by Kim Baldonado, and is running repeats of “Access Hollywood” in its place. The newscast, which aired for the last time Feb. 12, “was taken off the schedule in order to reallocate resources,” according to KNBC spokeswoman Erin Dittman. Baldonado, who has won awards for her coverage of education and homelessness, will continue as a general assignment reporter for the station. She took over “Midday Report” in July after serving as a weekend anchor. The show’s cancellation was lamented on the “Watercooler” bulletin board of the television news industry website TVSpy.com under a message string labeled “Death of KNBC.” Once flush with advertising revenue, local stations around the country have cut staff and curtailed newscasts in the last few years as the dour economy has eroded profits. In 2008, CBS Corp.-owned stations laid off more than 150 employees in 13 cities, including well-known anchors such as Harold Greene and Ann Martin. |

It's a shame to see a once proud station like KNBC taking extreme measures such as this. At least Kim will be staying with the station. Good for her.

Sometimes you wonder if a Midday Newscast is really necessary... Its definitely a sign of the times. Its the least watched broadcast out of them all as everyone is usually at work, school and etc..
